The Flourishing Child

 

We wanted to pass along this information to you that was received from Mercyhurst College.

 

Mercyhurst College is hosting “The Flourishing Child” an event featuring Dr. Jamie Ostrov, Associate Professor of Psychology at the State University of Buffalo.  He will present a lecture on The Development of Forms and Functions of Aggression, Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in the Walker Recital Hall, in the Hirt Academic Building on main campus.  The event is free and open to the public.

 

Dr. Ostrov is the Director of the Social Development Laboratory at SUNY Buffalo.  He earned his MA/PhD in Developmental Psychology from the University of Minnesota under the direction of Dr. Nicki Crick.  He also has a MSEd in Psychological Services from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Psychology from Colgate University.  As a developmental psychologist and psychopathologist, his research focuses mainly on understanding the development of subtypes of aggression in children and adolescents.  He has published his research in a variety of top peer-reviewed journals (e.g., Child Development, Development and Psychopathology, Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology, Psychological Review, and School Psychology Review).  He is an associate editor at the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NAEYC) Early Childhood Research Quarterly and currently serves on the editorial board of four journals.

 

On September 30, 2010 Dr. Elizabeth Dohrn, Ph.D.  will also be a speaker at Mercyhurst at 7:00pm in Walker Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Dr. Dohrn will present a lecture on Effective Programs for Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders.  This lecture will discuss successful strategies  to facilitate growth and skill building, using positive behavioral supports.  Dr. Dohrn, who has spent her professional career advocating on behalf of the “challenging student” is progress monitoring and intervention specialist for the Middleton (Wisconsin) Schools.
