u  Tasks:    Work with a partner to direct guests, assist with raffle, etc.

The Ladies Only Luncheon, an event which supports our children's program, is scheduled on Saturday, November 19th, from 11:00 a.m - 3:00 p.m. at the Kahkwa Club, 3300 Kahkwa Club Road, Erie, PA.

 

We appreciated the assistance of Mercyhurst and Gannon student volunteers last year - it really made a difference! Again this year we are in need of approximately 16 volunteers from 10 am to 3 pm. to help make the event a success.  Volunteer assignments include pairs of students walking among guests selling raffle tickets, assisting with the gift basket drawing and winner pick up of baskets,  directing guests to vendor areas, among other duties.    Lunch is provided for the volunteers mid-day and it is important that volunteers are able to stay through the event.  Of course, service hours would be documented if desired.

 

Due to the nature of our event, we require advance commitments and would prefer the ability to communicate directly with the volunteers in advance.  Students with questions and/or interested in volunteering should contact Angela Sullivan in the School of Education.

Gannon and the Erie Zoo Partner for Education

In exciting news, Gannon University and the Erie Zoological Society are partnering to create "Teaching Trunks" for the Zoo Traveling Program.  Through this partnership undergraduate students taking the ECED 308 Concepts and Methods in Science and Technology course are investigating four topics and creating lessons and supplementary materials for area teachers.

The Erie Zoo will loan the Teaching Trunks to local educators as part of their outreach program.  Both parties are very excited and you can expect to see results around the end of October.

Welcome back!  I hope you are all looking forward to a great year.

I wanted to let you know about some upcoming important dates.

The All SOE Meeting will be next Tuesday, August 30, 11 a.m. to noon in the Palumbo 3^rd floor atrium.  All education majors are required to attend.

The Field Experience Orientation will be Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to noon in Palumbo 2012.  Anyone taking a 30-, 60-, or 90-hour field experience is expected to attend.  Please bring all clearances (new or updated) to my office prior to the field experience orientation.

Anyone planning to student teach in the fall of 2017, needs to turn in the "Intent to Student Teach" form by Sept. 16.  (It's on yellow paper in the front entryway of the School of Education.)
