Seton Education Fellowship Program

Here's an opportunity for recent graduates!
Job Title: Seton Education Fellowship Program

Job Description: As Catholic elementary schools close in inner-cities across the United States, Seton Education Partners (http://www.setonpartners.org/) seeks to fill the void by providing strong academic support and an education grounded in the Catholic faith to low-income students in New York City who cannot afford to attend Catholic schools. To continue fulfilling that mission, Seton Education Partners is seeking founding members for the Seton Education Partners Fellowship, set to launch in the summer of 2014.
Seton Education Fellows will be a unique cohort of recent college graduates and career changers who are committed to the Catholic faith and the belief that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. Seton Fellows will work as part of the Stella Mundi Afterschool Program for elementary school children in a largely Latino neighborhood in the South Bronx, where over half of all families fall below the poverty line. Stella Mundi, which means "Star of the World" in Latin, aims to help underserved children shine through Catholic faith formation, character development, and targeted academic support in a fun and enriching after-school program. Broadly, Stella Mundi seeks to help children to know and love Christ better, to grow in virtue, to achieve academic success, and to have fun. Stella Mundi also has an innovative partnership with a "no excuses" charter school, and will provide extra, in-school support to students in our program.
Fellows would arrive for planning and professional development at 9am each school day, provide in-class support for the children we serve at their school site, and then lead small group tutoring, sports and arts enrichment, and faith lessons in the afterschool program. Fellows will receive two weeks of training prior to the start of the school year, weekly professional development sessions, weekly one-on-one meetings to share challenges and get guidance, an intentional faith community of peers, quarterly meetings to reflect on and set achievable professional goals, and a living stipend.
WE ARE SEEKING • Recent college graduates or career changers to make a one-year, full-time commitment to our mission—to helping the children in our program become saints and college graduates. • Smart, faith-filled, and hardworking leaders who are models of good character, have a heart for serving the poor, and are ready to help transform a community in need and be transformed in the process. • Dynamic individuals who enjoy and have experience working with children (note, all majors are welcome and encouraged to apply, fellows do not need a degree in education)
HOW TO APPLY Please send a cover letter explaining your interest in being a founding member of the Seton Education Partners Fellowship program as well as a resume to setoneducationfellows@gmail.com. You'll receive an initial response with next steps within 48 hours. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis with a
PRIORITY DEADLINE of March 5th, 2014. Applications received after this date will still be processed but will not receive priority. *Seton Education Partners seeks candidates from diverse academic, social, and cultural backgrounds who share our commitment to urban education reform.
About Seton: Seton was founded in 2009 by KIPP Foundation co-founder Scott Hamilton and Teach For America alumnus Stephanie Saroki de García to expand opportunities for underserved children in America to receive a Catholic education that builds knowledge, character, and faith. By strategically infusing creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship, and talented leadership, Seton pioneers "break-the-mold" approaches to achieving the goals of Catholic education for the poor.
